Join us at our Makom !

Rabbi Debra Orenstein, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, Rabbi/Cantor Monty Turner, and the Makom Ohr Shalom choir and musicians create an atmosphere that makes the High Holidays truly awesome. From the opening prayer on Rosh Hashanah through the joyous final blast of the shofar on Yom Kippur, the High Holidays at Makom Ohr Shalom are a uniquely contemplative and spiritually meaningful experience.

We are honored once again to have the father of Jewish Renewal, Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi join Rabbi Debra Orenstein to co-officiate. Reb Zalman will be with us for Rosh Hashanah this year. Those who have been fortunate enough to experience High Holidays with Reb Zalman know that his meditations and teachings are filled with engaging insights. PERSONAL ENCOUNTERS WITH GOD

In preparation for High Holidays, Makom Ohr Shalom is offering a class with Rabbi Debra Orenstein on “Personal Encounters with God.” This will be an EXPERIENCE, not a mere class or seminar. Using texts ranging from The Book of Isaiah to Eat, Pray, Love, we will look at personal encounters with God as a jumping-off point to discuss and (more deeply) discover our own relationship with the Divine. We will also use prayers, meditation, writing exercises, spiritual direction, and other tools to explore that relationship.
