Rabbi Debra Orenstein, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, Rabbi/Cantor Monty Turner, and the Makom Ohr Shalom choir and musicians create an atmosphere that makes the High Holidays truly awesome. From the opening prayer on Rosh Hashanah through the joyous final blast of the shofar on Yom Kippur, the High Holidays at Makom Ohr Shalom are a uniquely contemplative and spiritually meaningful experience.
We are honored once again to have the father of Jewish Renewal, Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi join Rabbi Debra Orenstein to co-officiate at Yom Kippur services. Those who have been fortunate enough to experience High Holidays with Reb Zalman know that his meditations and teachings are filled with engaging insights. He is truly one of the most inspiring and innovative rabbis in the world.
Our High Holiday service schedule is:
Rosh Hashanah:
Monday, September 29 – 8pm;
Tuesday, September 30 – 10 am;
Wednesday, October 1 – 10 am.
Yom Kippur:
Wednesday, October 8 – 8 pm;
Thursday October 9 – 10 am.

Join us for an experiential service with Rabbi Debra Orenstein & Rabbi/Cantor Monty Turner. Bring the whole family! We will celebrate Creation on its anniversary with walking/nature meditations, Tashlich, and personal encounters with Torah. This service is open to all ticket holders.

From the Westside or the San Fernando Valley: Take the 405 Freeway North to the 118 Freeway West to Balboa Blvd. (the 2nd exit, just 9 miles north of the Sepulveda Pass). Turn right on Balboa heading north about 1.5 miles. The entrance to Knollwood Country Club is on Balboa Blvd. immediately after Knollwood Drive. From the Santa Clarita Valley: Take the 5 Freeway South to the Balboa exit, turn right on San Fernando Road, right on Balboa Road and right again on Balboa Blvd. Knollwood is approximately 3 miles south.

Come be uplifted by short films on High Holiday themes, a slide-show & discussion on Shofar throughout Jewish history and Makom’s unique High Holiday music. Experience a Shofar Meditation and deep listening to the holy blasts. Rabbi Debra Orenstein, Rabbi/Cantor Monty Turner and Makom’s Master Blaster, Michael Chusid will lead this event. Snacks, parking and an optional lesson on how to blow Shofar provided!
SELICHOT SERVICE

Rabbi Debra Orenstein, Rabbi/Cantor Monty Turner and Master Blaster Michael Chusid will lead an interactive evening of music, meditation and spiritual preparation for the High Holidays. All are welcome!
SUKKOT TEACHING,
TORAH CELEBRATION & PICNIC
Sun., Oct. 19th, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm at the Orenstein-Weisz sukkah on the Westside.
Come learn, eat, share and laugh in the Sukkah with our clergy, Religious School families and community. Please bring a picnic lunch. Makom will provide drinks, desserts and materials for art and decorations. We will conclude by celebrating and unfurling the Torah in anticipation of Simchat Torah.
