Out-of-Towners: Come Spend High Holidays in Sunny California with Makom Ohr Shalom and Reb Zalman

For the last 15 years, Reb Zalman has spent High Holidays at Makom Ohr Shalom in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles). Please join him – and us, the Makom Ohr Shalom community – this year! We have hotel and home hospitality options available (see below).

“If I were to say what makes this shul so special, I would say it’s the joy. But the simchas that people have here are not superficial. They create a transformation. “Se’u She’arim Rasheychem” means “put your heads up a little higher than usual – lift your consciousness.” There is a field of caring and loving here. The people feel like a mishpochah, like a family. And that is especially important now, when our social fibers have become so short. In Boulder, where I live, I go to all the synagogues. In Los Angeles, I have one synagogue, Makom Ohr Shalom. It’s my spiritual home.

Fly Away provides efficient and affordable transportation for guests not renting a car, who will be arriving at LAX and traveling to the San Fernando Valley. When you exit out the departure gates, look for the shuttle area. The Fly Away bus moves within the terminal about every 10 minutes, depending on the time of day. Guests of the Airtel Plaza hotel need to take the bus to the Van Nuys Station. Once you get to Van Nuys, there is an “internal phone” at the station where you can directly dial to the hotel. The 24-hour hotel shuttle service will then pick you up promptly You can make these same arrangements at the bell desk of the hotel for your departure.
