Havdalah is the ritual that ends the Sabbath and begins the week. Shabbat begins with candles, wine, and community. Come experience ending Shabbat with candles, wine, and community. We hold these warm, social evenings in the intimate setting of a member’s private home. Our clergy lead the ritual and then we all sing, talk, laugh, and, of course, eat!  A Havdalah evening is an opportunity for newcomers to get to know the Makom community, and for us to get to know you. If you are interested in attending a Havdalah evening, please contact Dana Stone Goldberg at bbdj22@hotmail.com. And please check our Master Calendar for future Havdalah dates.

Shabbat Across America is an annual outreach event. The last program took place on March 7, 2008. We enjoyed a delicious Shabbat dinner and an uplifting service. Our theme for the evening was “People of the Book,” a topic Rabbi Debra Orenstein spoke and took questions about at dinner. Our services were enhanced with readings by authors who are members of Makom Ohr Shalom, and by the music of Makom members and guests.

The next official Shabbat Across America program will be held during the spring of 2009. But every Shabbat at Makom Ohr Shalom is an opportunity to reunite with community and celebrate Shabbat with joy. Please don’t wait until next spring to join us!

Guests are welcome at every service and class Makom Ohr Shalom offers. We have greeters at the door of every Shabbat service, and our goal is to make everyone feel at ease, at home, and part of the community.

Twice a year, we designate Friday night services at “Guest Shabbats,” to encourage members to bring friends and family, and to make it an especially easy and auspicious time for newcomers to attend.

Check back soon for information on our next Guest Shabbat.
