Praying Through Song
"God gave us Music that we might pray without words.” ~ Beethoven
"Music unwraps the heart, sings out the prayer, dances the Spirit, and opens the soul.” ~ Mary Davis
Jewish music helps us open our hearts, lift our souls, connect with the Divine, and pray.

Prayer Through Traditional And Modern Jewish Music
Makom has always been a place where people pray through song and new music is born. Our services incorporate prayers sung to traditional melodies as well as contemporary songs. Some of our favourites include songs by Debbie Friedman, Craig Taubman, our own Rabbi Monty Turner, and some of our own congregants.

Pam
Pam arrived at Makom over thirty years ago, new to LA, raised secular, and curious to learn more about Judaism. Her first day at Makom Shabbat services, the shalom chanting opened something deep in her soul. Pam continued attending Torah classes and services, and eventually deepened her commitment to Judaism by studying with a group of Makomers to become Bat Mitzvah. After many years singing from the pews, Pam joined Dana on the bima, co-leading songs and musical prayers, and playing guitar. Pam loves the spiritual connection and community she feels at Makom. She also enjoys writing Jewish songs, creative non-fiction, and screenplays.
